Dear fellow paediatricians.
This Bulletin not only has an education purpose to disseminate knowledge, but more important to germinate fruitful debates of any problems of our professional and child health concern. Vaccinations policy, drug price, Swine flu etc. are of course hot topics.
Children's Mental Health Services in HK have always been relegated to the backburner because it is not a glamorous topic and any positive measure cannot score a quantum leap of pubic opinion poll. Further more, these unfortunate children and their families are silent sufferers, without powerful mandates to speak for them. "See not. Hear not = no need to act" that sums up our Government's basic pragmatic working habit.
We pediatricians are morally indebt to make sure that the needs of these unfortunate children are looked after. CW Chan has written a very illuminating account of local mental services for children. Their plight is serious and it is up to us to generate enough opinion to effect the development of a better service that these children deserve. Please be generous with your opinions.
